WHO WE ARE
Old Dog is a barbershop located on the border of Chicago’s Wicker Park and Ukrainian Village neighborhoods. We exist to pay homage to the neighborhood barbershops of the ‘50s and to put a spin on the classics. We refresh tradition by skinning our fade, growing out length, introducing heavy texture, or sculpting a prominent beard. It’s also important to us that our barbershop be open to everyone: men, women, children, seniors, the LGBTQ+ community, trans and non-binary people. All are welcome. We aim to be an easy going and loyal presence in our community. Familiar and reliable...just like an Old Dog.
THE OLD DOG
The inspiration for the shop’s name came from owner Greg Kristopik’s dog Samson, a fiercely loyal and hirsute Saint Bernard pup who was an eternal old soul. Samson played a key role in Barber Greg’s pursuit of a career in the field of barbering and tales of Samson are commonly heard in the shop. Many patrons of the shop know of Samson and showed support when Samson passed in 2018. The shop is also a well known treat ‘pit stop’ among neighborhood canines and their humans!
OUR VALUES
Cleanliness: We take pride in maintaining a sanitary work environment. We go above and beyond in keeping our implements and work stations clean between every client. Our space is open, bright, and uncluttered, and this distinguishes us from many other spaces in Chicago.
Consistency: Whenever we get a new client in our chair, the number one comment we hear about their previous barber is: “the cut was good....for awhile, but then the quality fell off.” Consistency builds a clientele and clientele builds community. We will deliver a precision service every time.
Quality: Simply put, quality can not be rushed. We are meticulous in every service and quality always takes precedent over the number of customers we might see in a day.
